CTC Board of Directors

A Word from Your Editor

Well it's been about a year since the last issue of Running Shorts hit the press. Don't worry, the track club is still up and running. The board is still actively working to try to encourage running and walking in the local community.

With the large board turnover over the past few years (8 of 9 members new in past 2 years), we are taking stock of where we are. We are inventorying equipment (road signs, timing clocks, cones, tables), which race directors can lease for races. A big thanks to Deborah Johnson and CTC lifetime member Chuck Lascano and for their help in this.

We are looking over our bylaws to make sure we are keeping up with the times. We are going over our race director handbook, to help race directors in putting on their races.

We continue to provide scholarships to local runners applying to college. Congratulations to Charlottesville Track Club Skip Kinnier Scholarship Award Winners: Thomas Baker, Louisa County HS (College of William and Mary), Andrew Edmonds, Monticello HS (PVCC), Eric Smith, Charlottesville HS (Ripon College (Wisconsin)), Lawrence Heller, Madison County HS (Virginia Tech), Ashley Blackwell, William Monroe HS (Mary Baldwin College), Kayla Gibson, Orange County HS (University of Tampa), Lena Shi, Albemarle HS (University of Virginia), and Erica Stowe, Nelson County HS (James Madison University) The CTC presents $1,000 scholarships to area high school athletes who participated in Track and Field or Cross Country. The scholarship is not based on athletic achievement. Membership in the CTC is not a requirement. The Scholarship is based on the following criteria: 35% financial need, 25% academic achievement, 20% community and extracurricular activities, and 20% personal recommendations.

Other areas of note, we are trying to GO GREEN. The club is trying to cut back on the amount of paper we use. This is partly why your newsletter is now in electronic format (which you can print out), and membership renewals, surveys and elections can now be done confidentially online. A new online feature you may have noticed  and one which many runners have already started to use, many of our entry forms can be found online (Thanks to CTC President & webmaster extraordinaire, Leah Connor.) Don't worry, you can still find paper entries at the local running shops, which you can then mail to the CTC using their post office box. (Charlottesville Track Club | P.O.
