The guy who won the race said it was the toughest race he had run. I'm sure there are races that are more hilly, but this one was no slouch. The "killer" hill at mile 7 was steep, but short and not much of a problem. It was mile 22 going back uphill for about a mile to cross on the bridge in the full sun that really hurt, and the hill at the end before dropping into the bowl of the stadium. Whew!

Quality of Event:

This was the first year of the race, and the Knoxville Track Club, always a well organized group anyway, really pulled out all the stops and put on a fantastic race. Everything was easy to understand and was handled extremely well.
The expo was a little sparse. It being the first year of the race, the organizers made great shirts and a very nice medal. The crowds were fairly large, covered large portions of the course, and very vocal in their support.
A highlight is running into Neyland Stadium (no so big a deal to me, since I'm not a football fan, but a very, very big deal for fans of UT football) to finish at the 50-yard line with your image projected on the jumbotron in all your pain-filled glory. |
